Canadian factories were overhauled to supply the material and munitions of war. During the course of the war, Canadians produced 1.5 million rifles and machine guns, 72 million artillery and mortar shells, and 4.4 billion rounds of small ammunition, as well as 16,000 aircraft, 900,000 military vehicles, and 791 ships for overseas service.
