Walmer Road Baptist Church, 188 Lowther Street at Walmer Road, in the Annex neighbourhood, was designed and built by Langley & Burke in 1889-1892. Comanding a solid appearance and abundantly laden with Gothic features, Walmer Road was the largest Baptist church in Canada in its early years. Founded by Reverend Elmore Harris and generously funded by the family’s business, Massey-Harris, it has always enjoyed a large membership. Today, Walmer Road Baptist Church fulfills the spiritual and social needs of a diverse and multicultural community.
