The Court for the Tryal of Queen Katharine

Engraving - Tryal of Queen Katharine

In this scene from Shakespeare's Henry VIII, Queen Katharine, played by Sarah Siddons, gestures dramatically towards Cardinal Wolsey at left, while Cardinal Campeius looks over her left shoulder and Henry VIII sits nonchalantly upstage centre. This is one of the largest pieces in the library's extensive collection of nineteenth-century etchings, engravings and lithographs depicting life in the theatre.
