This reprint of Magna Carta, produced by the Westminster binder and printer John Whittaker is reputed to be the first English book printed in gold, marking a milestone in the book arts. John Harris, the noted painter, engraver and lithographer illuminated each copy.

A limited number of copies were issued, each differing in the collation, illumination and level of luxury. This copy features red morocco binding with gilt and blind-stamped borders on both covers, a gold tooled spine with gilt edges.
